2. Engaged

Engaged is a British term for a busy telephone line. When you ring someone and they are already on the phone, you will get the engaged tone.
e.g.

• I've been trying to call her all morning, but I keep getting the engaged tone.
• Receptionists' telephones are always engaged.

3. Flog verb UK informal

To flog something is to sell it, especially quickly or cheaply. It also means to beat with a whip or stick as a punishment, but if your dad tells you he flogged the old car, it is more likely he has sold it than beaten it (hopefully!).
e.g.

• He tried to flog his old computer, but no one would buy it.

4. Fluke noun informal

If something great happened that has been achieved by luck rather than skill that would be a fluke.
e.g.

• The first try was just a fluke.

5. Flutter noun UK informal

Flutter means a small bet, especially on a horse race, made by someone who is not a serious gambler.
eg.

• Grandma likes to have a bit of a flutter on the horses.

6. Fortnight noun UK

A fortnight is a well-used word in the UK meaning two weeks. Comes from the Old English "fourteen nights".
eg.

• The Manchester United captain has been ruled out for a fortnight with a hamstring injury.

2. Engaged

電話が話し中のことをイギリスではengagedと言います。誰かに電話をかけ、相手が話し中の時の音はengaged toneと言います。
例：

• 午前中ずっと彼女に電話をかけているんだけど、毎回話し中なんだ。

3. Flog

Flogすることは何かを（特に早くまたは安く）売ることを意味するくだけた言い方。もう一つ、ムチや棒などを用いて罰として殴打するという意味もありますが、お父さんが古い車をflogしたと言った場合には、おそらく殴ったのではなく売ったという意味でしょう（たぶんね！）。
例：

• 彼は古いコンピュータを売ろうとしたけど、誰も買おうとしなかった。

技能等によってではなくただの偶然によってもたらされたすばらしいことをくだけた言い方でflukeと言います。
例：

• 最初のトライはまぐれ当たりだった。

5. Flutter

Flutterは普段はギャンブルに興じない人がたまにする小さい賭け（特に競馬で）の意味のくだけた言い方です。
例：

• おばあちゃんはちょっぴり競馬で賭けをするのを楽しんでいる。

6. Fortnight

イギリスで良く使われる2週間を意味する言葉。古英語「fourteen　nights」(14夜)が起源。
例：

• マンUのキャプテンはハムストリングの怪我で2週間出場できなくなった。
